Event Listings Policy
The rules and expectations for creating, promoting, and managing events on Whats Poppin GR.
Last updated: July 10, 2026
1. Overview
This policy applies to anyone who creates, edits, promotes, or sponsors an event listing on Whats Poppin GR ("the platform"). Event listings help our community discover what's happening around West Michigan, so we ask organizers to keep listings accurate, respectful, and up to date. By creating an event listing, you agree to follow this policy in addition to our Terms of Service.
2. Who Can Create a Listing
Any registered account in good standing can unlock the Organizer Dashboard and create event listings, whether the event is personal, professional, or on behalf of a business. If you're listing an event on behalf of a business, we recommend also setting up a business listing so attendees can learn more about who's hosting.
3. Event Types
Organizers may list both in-person events, held at a physical venue or address, and virtual/online events, held remotely with join details shared with confirmed attendees. Listings must clearly and accurately identify which format applies, and virtual events may not misrepresent themselves as in-person (or vice versa).
4. Free Events
Free events are managed entirely on-platform. When you publish a free listing, the platform automatically:
- Generates tickets for attendees and enables on-site RSVP / attendance check-in.
- Unlocks feedback forms you can send to anyone checked in after the event.
- Tracks attendee history so you can re-invite people who've shown interest in your past events.
Organizers are responsible for using this attendee data solely to manage and promote their own events, consistent with our Privacy Policy. Attendee data may not be sold, shared with unrelated third parties, or used for unrelated marketing.
5. Paid Events & Third-Party Ticketing
Paid events may be listed and discovered on the platform, but Whats Poppin GR does not process ticket sales or paid RSVPs directly. Organizers of paid events must link to an external, reputable ticketing provider (such as Meetup or Eventbrite) for checkout. Listings must not advertise a price without a working link to complete that transaction, and pricing shown on the platform must match the price on the linked provider.
Due to What's Poppin GR not handling any paid ticket sales, What's Poppin GR does not take any responsibility for refund requests or payment issues which arise in association to an event listed on the What's Poppin GR listing directory.
6. Listing Content Standards
To keep listings trustworthy and tailored toward the West Michigan community, every event must:
- Represent a real event, at a real time and location (or a working virtual join method).
- Use accurate titles, descriptions, and images that reflect the actual event.
- Be located in Michigan or represented by a Michigan based business.
- Avoid discriminatory, harassing, sexually explicit, or otherwise unlawful content.
- Avoid duplicate or spam listings for the same occurrence of an event.
We reserve the right to edit, unpublish, or remove any listing that violates these standards without prior notice. Allowed event locations are up to the discrepency of the What's Poppin GR moderation team.
7. Event Analytics
Every listing includes performance data visible to the organizer, including total page views, total saves, total RSVPs, waitlist / maybe / interested selections, and late cancellations. This data reflects platform activity only and is intended to help organizers understand and improve turnout—not as a guarantee of attendance.
8. Event Sponsorships
Businesses may sponsor an event listing in one of two ways: by requesting to sponsor an event, which the organizer may approve or deny, or by asking the organizer to add them as a sponsor directly through the event editor. Organizers are responsible for confirming that any sponsor they approve or add is an accurate, appropriate representation of who is supporting the event.
9. Changes & Cancellations
If event details change (time, location, format) or the event is cancelled, organizers must update the listing as soon as possible. Attendees who RSVP'd or were on the waitlist should be notified of significant changes or cancellations promptly. Repeatedly cancelling or misrepresenting events may result in restrictions on your Organizer Dashboard.
Events with free attendance which utilize the What's Poppin GR RSVP tools will be automatically notified once your event listing has been cancelled on the platform.
10. Enforcement
Violations of this policy may result in a listing being edited, unpublished, or permanently removed, and may result in warnings, feature restrictions, or suspension of an organizer's account depending on severity and history. We aim to be fair and will generally notify organizers of action taken on their listings, except in cases involving safety, fraud, or repeated abuse.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above, and continued use of event listing features after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
